Death of Death (Frankenšteins 2.0), dir. Dāvis Sīmanis, 52’/80’, Latvia/Czechia
The Covid-19 pandemic, gradual alienation from his fellow human beings and a growing fear of his own death makes the filmmaker investigate whether he can prolong his life scientifically. Thus begins an existential yet hysterical journey to uncover the business of eternal life. On the way, he discovers giant refrigerators in a village near Moscow that hold 67 frozen corpses to be defrosted sometime in the next few hundred years, a lab in the United States that pumps out human brains to upload them onto a supercomputer, and all sorts of characters ranging from crazy futurologists to crafty death-businessmen.
