The seventh Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF) will take place 15-25 October 2020. Most festival films will be screened both in theaters and online simultaneously, but in response to the ongoing global health crisis, all RIGA IFF FORUM industry events will be held completely online. This decision has opened up a great opportunity – everyone, regardless of their location, will be able to join in and meet other film professionals.
The festival will open with a unique experience – the cine-concert “Where is the Truth?!” that will be available for viewing online worldwide. After the opening, the next day will bring attendees two spectacular industry events – RIGA IFF GOES XR and MAGNETIC SERIES.
The third edition of RIGA IFF GOES XR will start on 16 October at 9:00. This year, the programme is opening its doors to other immersive mediums besides VR, like augmented reality. Whatever your field or level of expertise (film, tech or other), join in to hear some exciting case studies and learn about creating and distributing immersive content. Put what you have just learned into action at the hackathon the following day, 17 October at 10:00.
MAGNETIC SERIES – an event launched in close partnership with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and TET – will start on the same day at 10:00. This pitching and networking event has a focus on the Baltic Sea Region and the Nordic countries and will include two panel discussions and case studies.
The BALTIC ANIMATION MEET-UP will take place from 19 to 24 October and will once again gather Baltic animation professionals to focus on the latest developments and issues in the industry. The event will begin with a student pitching training led by Olivier Catherin after which the Baltic Animation Meet-Up Portfolio Presentations and the Student Job Market will help integrate the new talents into the animation industry. And last but not least, director Gints Zilbalodis (Away, 2019) will hold a masterclass.
We at RIGA IFF are very dedicated to the GREEN CHARTER FOR FILM FESTIVALS initiative and we would like to contribute to the advancement of this idea. We have therefore developed an online event, in close cooperation with the Les Arcs Film Festival and Secoya Eco Tournage, for filmmakers, film festival representatives and festival attendees that will take place on 21 October, 17:00-19:00. Participants will be able to learn more about environmentally friendly filmmaking and festival organisation, as well as what our individual responsibilities are in this time of climate change.
To round off the forum, the beloved SHORT RIGA TEST SCREENINGS will take place on 22-23 October. These are closed screenings of short films by Baltic directors, after which an international panel of experts will provide feedback about their work. The screenings serve as a springboard for getting these films into the festival circuit.
If you wish to join, please look for the application forms for each event here: https://rigaiff.lv/en/forum-2020/.
International applicants will receive an invitation for accreditation which will provide access to all industry events, as well as to the Latvian Film Showcase and several Short Riga screenings.
