Latvian animation will again be a focal point of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (June 13-18) with two films in the competition programmes and a MIFA stand.
In the Main Competition, Vladimir Leschiov’s short film Waiting for the New Year (8 minutes), created at Lunohod studio, is a drawing on paper animation about a lonely woman street cleaner’s letter to unknown person, written on the first day of the New Year: a year spent observing the seasons and dreaming of a miracle for the following New Year.
Indra Sproge’s Awesome Beetle’s Colors (3 minutes) in the Commissioned Films Competition, is a nearly impossible story, supported by a catchy melody, which guides the viewer through the ABCs: Awesome Beetles Color Dirty Elephant, Five Gorgeous Hippopotamuses Inspire the Jaguar. e.t.c.
Every year, over 7000 film industry professionals from around the world participate in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and here, for the 2nd year round, Latvians will be available for meetings at the MIFA – a film market, which kicks off June 15th.
The design of the Latvian stand has been created using themes from the latest animation films, including this year’s Annecy participants Waiting for the New Year and Awesome Beetle’s Colors. The stand will offer an overview of the Latvian animation scene, with the National Film Centre of Latvia presenting information about the latest and upcoming animation films.
The Annecy International Animation Film Festival ends June 18th.
