Baltic Sea Docs, the leading documentary co-production pitching event in the Baltic region, is now accepting project submissions for its 29th edition, taking place on 31 August – 5 September 2025 in Riga, Latvia. The call for projects is open until 9 May.
Each year, Baltic Sea Docs provides a platform for documentary filmmakers to present their projects to international broadcasters, sales agents, film funds, and other industry representatives. The forum focuses on feature-length creative documentaries and is also open to documentary animation and cross-media projects. The program includes pitch training sessions, project presentations, one-on-one meetings with decision-makers, industry seminars, and networking events. Additionally, up to four films in post-production, previously pitched at Baltic Sea Docs, will be showcased in the Coming Soon session. A curated film program will also be presented to wider audiences.
Baltic Sea Docs welcomes applications from independent production companies based in the Baltic Sea region, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus. Companies from other European countries may apply if their project relates to these regions or involves a regional co-producer. Participation is free of charge, offering selected teams the opportunity to refine their creative vision, gain industry insights, and explore financing opportunities.
Recent and upcoming films pitched at Baltic Sea Docs include “9-Month Contract” (dir. Ketevan Vashagashvili, 2025, Georgia, Bulgaria, Germany), “Special Operation” (dir. Oleksiy Radynski, 2025, Ukraine, Lithuania), “The Guest” (dir. Zvika Gregory Portnoy, Zuzanna Solakiewicz, 2024, Poland, Qatar), and “A Poem for Little People” (dir. Ivan Sautkin, 2023, Ukraine, Lithuania, United Kingdom), among others.
The deadline for submissions is 9 May 2025, with selected projects announced on 4 June 2025. More details on the application process and participation can be found at balticseadocs.lv.
Baltic Sea Docs is organized by the National Film Centre of Latvia, with support from Creative Europe MEDIA and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
