The Oscars: Latvia Selects “To Be Continued” as an Entry for Best Foreign Language Film

Latvia has submitted a film by the classic documentary director Ivars Seleckis, “To Be Continued”, produced by Mistrus Media to compete for the US Academy Awards nomination in the category Best Foreign Language Film. This is Latvia’s 11th foreign-language Oscar submission.

Presented at Cannes works-in-progress series in 2017 and premiered at Visions du Réel IFF (March 2018), To Be Continued is a curious and tender look at the future through the lives of seven children. ”To Be Continued is about the way a human enters life. By submitting the film by Ivars Seleckis we stand up for humanism and real film art,” this is how the decision of the expert committee of the National Film Centre of Latvia was summarized by the director Viestur Kairish (his feature The Chronicles of Melanie represented Latvia in the Oscar run 2018).  “The film is full of love and warmth,” Tue Steen Müller, the renowned documentary film expert, writes in his review.
