Rolands Kalniņš – director

With his 1967 film Cetri Balti Krekli (#FourWhiteShirts), the Latvian director #RolandsKalniņš presented a subtle critique of the Soviet totalitarian regime via musical comedy. It was banned from screens for twenty years, shown in public for the first time in 1986 and restored in 2017 to mark the filmmaker’s 95th birthday. In 2018 the film was part of Festival de Cannes Classics program.”
